On 23 March, the Basque University System Quality Agency, Unibasq, presented its 2025 annual accounts—accompanied by a favourable interim audit report—and its management plan for 2026, at a meeting chaired by the Regional Minister for Science, Universities and Innovation, Juan Ignacio Pérez Iglesias.

The management plan for 2026 envisages a significant increase in activity, particularly in three key areas: the six-yearly evaluation of teaching and research staff — following the assumption of functions previously carried out by ANECA in accordance with the LOSU —; the evaluation of research, driven by growing demand from the sector; and internationalisation, through participation in various European initiatives that include both projects and evaluations using the European Approach. The European Approach consists of evaluating joint European university programmes using common standards (ESG) so that the result is recognised (directly) by all participating states.

Furthermore, the Governing Council has approved the signing of agreements with the four universities of the Basque University System and their affiliated centres. These agreements will facilitate the evaluation of the research track records of teaching and research staff at private universities, as well as the continuing education qualifications offered by the University of the Basque Country (EHU).
